Search is Sourcegraph’s core product offering. Our clients, some of the biggest names in technology, depend on our search tool to answer questions about their source code that no other tool can handle. Over the last year, the search team has grown significantly in size. So much so that it is now made up of two teams and we are still growing so we can innovate and continue to drive software development productivity.
The Search Product team owns all parts of Sourcegraph that help users compose search queries and consume search results, from our query language to higher-order features such as Search Notebooks or Code Monitoring. We foster a high-trust, high-autonomy, collaborative environment, with plenty of room for team-led innovation. Search Product teammates across engineering, product and design work together to make Sourcegraph search more powerful and more user-friendly, with user needs and feedback always top-of-mind.
During this internship, you will collaborate closely with your assigned engineering mentor. Together, you will choose a scoped frontend or full-stack project to tackle from our roadmap that will bring tangible value to Sourcegraph users. You will collaborate with your cross-functional teammates to make progress on this project, shipping your work across our Cloud and on-premise deployments.
Week 1: Onboarding
You will go through the same onboarding process every new Sourcegraph teammate undergoes.
You will install and configure Sourcegraph for development.
You will get familiar with the Sourcegraph codebase, and make your first small changes.
You will pick a project to work on in collaboration with your engineering mentor.
Week 2 - 11: Working on software
Start work on your assigned project.
Meet weekly with the manager for a 1:1
Meet and work with your mentor on a regular basis.
Join team meetings and participate as a team member.
Week 12: Offboarding and retrospective
Wrap up your project.
Participate in a retrospective interview with your manager about your experience during the internship program.
About You
You are a curious software engineer with demonstrable experience in building frontend or full-stack applications.
Qualifications:
You have experience building and testing web UIs using modern SPA frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, …).
You have experience using Git.
You’re a clear and proactive written communicator.
You have a high degree of ownership for the areas you work in and the tasks you take on.
You proactively identify opportunities for improvement and communicate them to the team.
You seek frequent feedback from users or teammates, and use it to guide your work.
You make time for collaboration, but you also enjoy driving forward projects autonomously.
Your working hours overlap with 4pm-8pm UTC, so that you can join team meetings and have opportunities for synchronous collaboration with your teammates.
Nice to haves:
You have experience building and testing APIs, preferably using the technologies in our stack (Golang, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL)
