About the Role
The software engineer is responsible for bringing experience and expertise to a team to develop the software suite for Workhorse Aerospace unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This position will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and product lifecycle of critical enterprise and UAS software applications to ensure that we develop a safe, reliable, and high-quality software solution. This person is a vital member of the Workhorse Aerospace team, providing a daily contribution to help the engineering team meet goals and standards while implementing the company's policies and business objectives. What you will do
Write and test software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft (such as autopilots, payloads, software defined radios or other functional components) Design and implement software for prototypes and products using established Workhorse and industry tools and best practices. Ensure good configuration control and management of software Assist in writing of system requirements, system test plans, diagnostic tools, and in validation testing of software. Assist with hardware selection and recommend processing, memory and storage needs of systems Development will often support rapid prototyping and conceptual level testing and will require estimating time to develop software and scoping the depth of the development with project/program management to fit timeline and budget constraints Effectively provide development updates and estimate milestone dates to help track progress and ensure project requirements are met on schedule Trouble-shoot complex systems from a software perspective with hardware diagnostics required. Supports flight test operations Supports transition of development software to production environments and to certification. Participates in multi-disciplinary development teams Develops proof of concept capability demonstrations. Conducts and support design reviews Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results Interact with onsite, remote, and 3rd party developers for front end/backend development and integration of ground control station (GCS) software, Flight Control Software (e.g. PX4 or ArduPilot) and other technology associated to UAS operation Collaborate effectively with other engineering, QA and product management teams to ensure timely delivery of products and services
What you need
A Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or similar work experience 0-3 years of expertise in technologies such as PX4, Ardupilot, C, C++, mavlink, UAVCAN, droneCAN, jmavsim, gazebo, plot juggler, QGroundControl, Mission Planner 0-3 years experience working with edge/IOT devices such as raspberry pi, Nvidia Jetson, etc 0-5 years of industry experience
What’s Nice to Have Advanced degree or specialized work with UAS technologies 2+ years of experience working with unmanned aerial software such as PX4 or ArduPilot Experience working with sensors such as LIDAR, range finders, sonar, digital cameras, GPS, accelerometers, gyroscopes, barometers, magnetometers.
