Canon, U. S. A., Inc. is currently hiring for our 2022 Canon Insights Internship Program.

We have an exciting internship opportunity in Irvine, CA to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

This position is full time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office Monday and Wednesday and an option to work from home the remainder of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in office attendance on other days). Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Software Development Intern to join a team of engineers who are responsible for Canon USA original application development. In this position, you will engage in software development and data analysis using different technologies applied to multiple use cases.

The ideal candidate will help in data analysis of enterprise related datasets in this role and will have some hands-on experience in working with datasets to gain new knowledge. Capability of being able to apply analytic results into new or existing software workflows is expected.

  • Assist in analysis and development of solutions built around data to enable new workflows and recommendations.
  • Work closely with a mentor engineer and analyze datasets to uncover new insights and ways of applying them to existing solutions.
  • Investigate and apply statistical or machine learning approach to solutions where plausible, implementing software components to implement the approach.
  • Document findings, results of analysis and other relevant information.
  • Look for new ways to bring about innovation solutions and ideas to the table.
  • Be willing to take on a variety of tasks.

Qualifications

To succeed in the Insights Program, you must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. We also require candidates to be enrolled in a related major in the department of interest and have some former work or internship experience.

  • Pursuit of bachelor’s or master’s degree (or above) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field required.
  • Experience with Python preferred but comfort with at least one of the following is required: Python, Java, C# or Node.JS
  • Some hands-on experience applying analytical techniques to large datasets.
  • Knowledge and capability to utilize regular expressions
  • Some database experience and familiarity with SQL is required
  • Some experience using Machine Learning algorithms is preferred.
  • Some experience using Business Intelligence tools such as PowerBI is a plus.
  • Exposure to text analytics is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written & verbal communication skills required.
  • Possess a strong willingness to come up to speed on new technologies the candidate may otherwise be unfamiliar with.
