How long does it take to learn to code?
The amount of time it takes someone to learn to code varies on their personal learning style. Everyone’s different, so some people pick it up faster than others. However, it’s usually easiest to learn in a structured environment with support from professionals and peers. You’ll likely pick up the basics within the first 6 months, then perfect your skills within a year. At Kenzie Academy, our program is 9 months long for this reason. We built our Software Engineering and UX Design programs to account for the time it takes to really master the art of coding.
Are coding schools or bootcamps worth it?
Great question! The answer is totally dependent on which coding school or bootcamp you choose. Often, hiring managers aren’t interested in 3-month coding bootcamp grads. They want to know you’ve taken the time to really learn, not just memorize code. That’s why we recommend and teach 9-month courses. It’s also why we don’t consider ourselves a coding bootcamp. As a Kenzie grad, you can tell hiring managers you went to a coding school. You’ll have gone through a much deeper learning process, worked on your soft skills, and graduated with a few projects in your back pocket to showcase to potential employers. At Kenzie, you’ll become a Software Engineer or UX Designer, not a coding bootcamp grad.
